Description:

Considerable challenges exist in the evaluation and management of unilateral hearing loss in the pediatric population. While long established evidence exists demonstrating the negative impact of unilateral hearing loss on speech and language development as well as academic performance, intervention is often delayed or overlooked in children with unilateral hearing loss. The University of Miami Children’s Hearing Program unilateral hearing loss protocol will be discussed. This presentation will review key considerations in management of children with unilateral hearing loss. Will address the importance of establishing a collaborative care approach and offer strategies for clinicians to provide effective counseling and support to children with unilateral hearing loss and their families.
