Description: Cerumen removal is a needed skill set in the modern audiology clinic. It is a necessary step prior to otoscopic examination of the tympanic membrane, diagnostic testing, ear mold impression taking, and hearing aid fitting. As the entry point for hearing and vestibular healthcare, audiologists should be well versed and comfortable with this procedure. This eAudiology Web seminar will cover the basics of cerumen removal. We will discuss state regulations related to cerumen removal, infection control, needed tools, proper technique, billing/reimbursement, documentation, and managing potential complications. Participants will gain the groundwork and insight that is needed prior to being competent with cerumen removal.
