Providing Coping Strategies and Hope to Tinnitus Patients (0.2 CEUs)
Recorded: April 7, 2017
Presenter: Melanie Gregory, MA and Sharon Sandridge, PhD
Duration: 2 hours
Instructional Level: Fundamental
Learner Outcomes: Upon completion, each participant in the eAudiology Web seminar will be able to:
- Describe how tinnitus impacts a person’s life and what their most important needs and challenges are.
- Explain to patients how they can learn to live better lives with their tinnitus.
- Apply the Ida Tinnitus Tools to provide relevant counselling and build resilience in patients.
Many hearing care professionals find it challenging to treat tinnitus patients, even though tinnitus is a common symptom. However, clinicians are sometimes the first to see tinnitus patients, therefore they need good counselling skills and the ability to apply a holistic approach to care. This module introduces three new tools to help hearing care professionals structure conversations with patients about their tinnitus, convey a message of hope and provide relevant counselling and coping strategies in appointments.
