Knowledge

Learner Outcomes: Upon completion, each participant in the eAudiology Web seminar will be able to:

  1. Identify risk indicators which require monitoring for delayed-onset hearing loss
  2. List risk indicators which require more frequent audiological monitoring.
  3. Explain options for risk monitoring protocols.

Description: Joint Committee on Infant Hearing (JCIH) recommends audiological monitoring for newborns identified with risk indicators for delayed-onset hearing loss. Some risk indicators are more concerning and require frequent monitoring. JCIH 2007 position statement did not provide a detailed monitoring protocol. As a result, there are inconsistencies in risk monitoring protocols across the country. This presentation describes risk indicators for delayed-onset hearing loss, audiology protocols for risk monitoring and guidance for tracking risk indicators at a clinic and state level.
