Instructional Level: Introductory
Program Focus: Knowledge

Learner Outcomes: Upon completion, each participant in the eAudiology Web seminar will be able to:

  1. List three factors that may contribute to missed HAE referral opportunities in an ENT clinic
  2. Identify three ways to help build a better team approach between audiologists and ENTs
  3. Develop a referral protocol that both Audiology and ENT departments can follow for the good of both patients and growth of the clinic

Description: Roughly 30% of Audiologists work alongside Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) physicians in their daily practice (American Academy of Audiology, 2014). These ENT physicians see patients for a variety of complaints that may or may not involve audiology or ear related concerns. The ENT/Audiology team approach to patient care is essential and needs to be well understood and utilized in everyday practice. Most ENT physicians have an established protocol for referring patients to have hearing evaluations, but do not have a standard referral protocol for hearing aid evaluations (HAE).
