Description: Hearing aids represent an extremely dynamic area of audiology with frequent changes in technology and clinical practice. More than 100 hearing aid articles are published each year. This presentation will provide a review of the hearing aid literature published in 2018, with an emphasis on both research and clinical implications to assist the clinical audiologist in keeping current their knowledge in this area.  Attendees will leave with information they can use Monday morning in their clinical settings.

  2. Identify research that is relevant to clinical practice.
  3. Integrate new information into clinical practice.

Robert G. Turner, PhD

General Hearing Instruments

Dr. Turner’s background is in electrical engineering, hearing science, and audiology. He has developed and directed academic and/or clinical programs at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, University of California - San Francisco, and LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. He has served as the inaugural Editor of the American Journal of Audiology, an Associate Editor of the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, and on the first Editorial Board of the Journal of the American Academy of Audiology. In 2008, he was the Audiology Co-Chair of the ASHA convention in Chicago. He received the DiCarlo Award from ASHA and is an ASHA Fellow. He received an Outstanding Publication Award from Ear & Hearing. In addition to amplification, his interests include clinical decision analysis, and professional affairs. Currently, he serves as a consultant for General Hearing Instruments.

Catherine V. Palmer, PhD

Gus Mueller, PhD
Professor
Vanderbilt University

Dr. H. Gustav Mueller, PhD, holds faculty positions with Vanderbilt University, the University of Northern Colorado and Rush University. He is a consultant for Sivantos Group and the Contributing Editor for AudiologyOnline, where he has the monthly column “20Q With Gus.” Dr. Mueller is a Founder of the American Academy of Audiology and a Fellow of the American Speech and Hearing Association. He has published extensively in the areas of diagnostic audiology and hearing aid applications, and has co-authored ten books on hearing aids and hearing aid fitting, including the recent three-volume Modern Hearing Aids series, and the clinical text on Speech Mapping and Probe Microphone Measures. Gus is the co-founder of the popular website www.earTunes.com, and resides on a North Dakota island, just outside of Bismarck.
